Educator Courses

I. STEM Education for Educators (SEE)

A TEA-certified CPE course. Awards 26 professional development credit hours.

Course is offered virtually. If interested in an in-person class, contact us for further information.

The micro:bit is specifically designed to encourage children to get actively involved in writing software for computers and building new things, rather than being consumers of media.

In this course, educators will learn how to code with the micro:bit, and be guided through projects that they can complete with their students.

Admission Fees: $395/registrant

Program Description

This workshop prepares teachers with everything they need to know about the micro:bit, how to program it, and how to incorporate these lessons into their curriculum.

The BBC micro:bit can be used for all sorts of cool creations; from robots to musical instruments, the possibilities are endless. This little device has an awful lot of features, like 25 red LED lights that can flash messages. There are two programmable buttons that can be used to control games or can be used as switches. The BBC micro:bit can detect motion and tell you which direction you’re heading in, and it can use a low energy Bluetooth connection to interact with other devices.

By the end of this workshop teachers will know how to write programs for the micro:bit using the block editor. No prior coding or technical experience is needed – this workshop is suitable for everyone. Each participant will also keep the micro:bit they learned with.

Included in Course

  • Techno Tinkers’ Micro:bit introduction guide
  • Micro:bit starter kits for each attendant to keep
  • Lessons and Q&A session guided by an expert in engineering/computer science
