Student programming at AUSPREP
8Techno Tinkers was proud to provide course materials and a week of student programming for a program called the Austin Pre-Freshmen Engineering Program (AusPREP) in the summer of 2019. The program targeted high-achieving and traditionally underrepresented students in the STEM fields. Abdigani led introductory programming classes based on the BBC micro:bit and the micro:bit Basic Kit. Students programmed projects such as a step counter, a radio communication app, and an LED light show. The class was a collaborative and engaging environment, and we encouraged the students to continue experimenting with the micro:bit after the program. All in all, this successful pilot program increased our student outreach efforts, and we look forward to engaging more of our community in similar programs.
